In an effort to squeeze every last little moment out of Summer. This last weekend was movie night!
It was equipped with a plethora of dogs, hot dogs, popcorn and candy.
The Goonies was the feature of the evening.
I scoured Craiglist and found an amazing 13′ blow up movie screen by Airblown that’s awesome. I got a great little projector off of Amazon by a company called Corprit. It wireless and connects itself automatically to my Wifi. How great is that? So, I just plug in my speaker and my Roku and that’s it, good to go!
I spread some rugs, pillows and beanbag chairs.
1 bottle of Grüner Vetliner
1 bottle Sparkeling Apple cider
1 cup White Rum
1/4 cup Triple Sec
1 1/2 cup Blueberrys
1 1/2 cup Strawberries
Soda water for topping
Mix this all together in a larger container and let chill for 2 hours.
Ladle out over ice and top with a splash of soda water!
Need a faster then fast appetizer for a party? I threw these together in no time. I picked up festive toothpicks and some fresh fruit, cheese and cured meats cut them into bite size pieces. Think about interesting combinations. Here’s is cherry, bacon, Sheeps milk Parma, and blueberry. Also, cantaloupe, prosciutto and Parma. Some were just with fruit alone.
They worked perfectly for the party and were a total hit. No muss, no fuss. And, everyone loved the bite sized combos!
I’m interested in trying watermelon and pineapple versions next. Think of all the great party themes and color combos possible!
Ever had Cheeks? Halibut cheeks. Get your minds out of the gutter. Geez.
Anyway, I found them at fish market. And, they aren’t always available. Oh boy but, when they are. Yes, yes and yes.
Seattle weather has been hot. Like 90s hot. And, the last thing I wanted to do was turn onthe oven. This worked for this fish but, why not others? We have all Summer people.
Start with the foil, throw in some fresh veggies. These, are snap peas and onions then I added some chopped garlic, olive oil, capers, a little lemon squeeze, topped it with a bit of yummy, yummy Dungeness crab and sealed up that sucker for 15 on the BBQ! Hello delicious!
It was truly outstanding and didn’t add one ounce of heat to the already hot little box called home, that was happening that day. I assume we will have a few more of those to come…
Try it you love it and let me know what you think, how it was and what you used!
I’m in love. It’s no secret the Pacific Northwest is spectacular and I don’t discount her beauty. I love her alright. Yesterday, was exceptional and lazily lovely. Until, there was the suggestion of going to a park by the water. Fine by me but, the amount of people crammed into the closest one, made me claustrophobic before I even got out of the car. No thanks.
So, those of you that know the South sound even just a little, know it gets a little quieter the further you go. And, that’s what we did. Right across the Narrows Bridge to a pretty place, called Fox Island.
And, it was totally awesome. We explored and went from beach to beach, gathering shells and rocks and things.
In one spot, there were three children, in swimming suits, out on the spit splashing in the water and examining sea creatures. Down from one of the houses along the water, in the cove. What a way to grow up. It reminded me of when I was young. We were always on the water. Those were some of my greatest memories.
At one point we realized that there must have been thousands upon thousands of living purple sand dollars all along the strip of beach we walked. And, the slimey shoreline and its sea anemones, kept shooting water up as we watched down to the water.
We would lift up the big rocks to find 50 tiny crabs, shocked to see the sunshine, and scatter. Jack, my son, would pick up one every time and plunk him into the giant clam shell he found, like a little jail. Until, he willfully let them go back into the ocean in sets, in case they were family…of course.
We started a bit later in the day. But, stretched out the time until dusk. And, made the most of the toll bridge fee.
What a day. We are going to make that a regular occurrence so, I can avoid the crowds and enjoy the sun…
